On September 17-18, 2018, the "2018 China Konjac Industry Development Seminar" co organized by Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences and hosted by the Konjac Association of the Chinese Horticultural Society was grandly held at the Cuiyi Hotel in Kunming, Yunnan. More than 350 member representatives from the konjac planting, processing, product, and market development industries across the country attended the conference, which was the largest number of attendees since the establishment of the association. 继续了解

The meeting was chaired by President Zhang Shenglin and opened at 9:00 am on the 17th. Leaders from Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences and Yunnan Agricultural Technology Extension Station attended the opening ceremony. At the meeting, Vice President Dai Luyuan of Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences delivered a speech welcoming all attending representatives to Yunnan and thanking all konjac colleagues for their long-term concern and support for the konjac industry in Yunnan Province. Vice President Cui Ming announced the decision of the association to award the title of "National Key County for Konjac Industry". The leaders of the podium awarded the title to 10 counties (cities, districts) in Yunnan Province, including Fuyuan County, Chuxiong City, Langao County, Hanbin District, Ziyang County, Mian County, Changyang County, Fang County, Weining County, Guizhou Province, and Muchuan County, Sichuan Province, which were awarded the "2016-2018 National Key County for Konjac Industry". Vice President Cui Ming summarized the work of the Planting Industry Special Committee over the past year and analyzed the basic situation of konjac planting in major production areas this year with detailed data. Vice President Yuan Liang summarized the suggestions for the development of konjac processing industry in response to the current strict environmental supervision in the country over the past year. Vice President Wang Kefu summarized the work of the konjac products industry in standard setting, market research, and other aspects over the past year, and put forward suggestions for the development of the konjac products industry under the current situation of food quality and safety. 对照阅读

The technology exchange session was attended by various universities, research institutes, and grassroots agricultural technology promotion cadres, who respectively elaborated on the latest developments in scientific research and production technology promotion in the konjac industry over the past year from multiple aspects, including biological basic research, suitable high-yield and disease prevention cultivation techniques, new variety breeding and expansion, and research and development of new processing equipment. The technological exchange has strengthened the confidence of the attending representatives in industrial development and clarified the direction of industrial development.

In the market analysis stage, the attending representatives objectively analyzed the production situation of planting bases, inventory situation of processing enterprises, and operation and sales situation of product enterprises this year. From the current situation, due to the rise in prices in the early stage, rubber making enterprises are struggling, and product enterprises are unable to bear high costs, resulting in a sharp decline in production. Leisure food enterprises are also basically unprofitable, and some even suffer losses. The industry situation is not optimistic. Therefore, all attending representatives reached a call for timely harvesting and reasonable distribution of benefits in various aspects of the industry for fresh konjac:

1. Eliminate premature harvesting and early purchase: Currently, konjac is in a critical period of growth, and premature harvesting can seriously affect the quality of refined flour and taro seeds. Call for processing companies that have made early acquisitions to temporarily suspend their acquisitions; Call on taro farmers to strictly follow the normal maturity period of konjac when harvesting.

2. Ensuring the quality of refined flour and controlling production costs: We call on all enterprises to enhance their awareness of potential risks, reduce their own risks, and not blindly rush or inflate the purchase price of fresh taro.

3. Promote sustained, stable, and healthy development of the industry: Given the current severe market situation, we call on all members to prioritize the overall situation of the industry, control production costs in conjunction with the production situation of each link in the industry, and allocate benefits reasonably; Moderately pursue profits while promoting the healthy development of the industry.
